M.E., CFS, and Fibromyalgia - why "lifelong" is an opinion, not a life sentence
A diagnosis can describe where you are. It was never meant to describe where you'll stay.
Seventeen years ago, "lifelong" would have been the word attached to my body. It isn't the word I live by now, and it doesn't have to be the word you live by either.
Recovery rarely announces itself with one single breakthrough. It tends to arrive the way spring does, quietly, beneath the surface, long before anything visible has changed. The work is in listening to what your body has been trying to tell you all along, and finally being willing to hear it.
You are not broken. You are not stuck for good. And whatever your body is expressing right now, it is expressing it for a reason, one that can be understood, and one that can change.
That's where the real work begins.
